Talk on "Personalisation in Conversational Information Retrieval" by Prof. Fabio Crestani, Università della Svizzera Italiana (USI)

We are pleased to inform you about the upcoming seminar by Prof. Fabio Crestani, Università della Svizzera Italiana (USI), Lugano, Switzerland titled:"Personalisation in Conversational Information Retrieval" Everyone interested is cordially invited to attend!

Personalisation in Conversational Information Retrieval

In its history Information Retrieval (IR) has undergone many changes. Such changes have almost always brought a leap in the improvement of IR performance. The latest significant change we saw was brought forward by the conversational approach to IR. Conversational IR (CIR) enables a user to initiate a dialogue with the system to explain and clarify his/her information need and, through a sequence of simple interactions and in a natural way, arrive at a small set of relevant documents. For this critical change to fully achieve its potential, we need to move the user to the centre of the CIR process and start thinking of Personalised CIR. Personalised CIR will bring a higher level of effectiveness and usability to IR and will enable it to realise its full potential of CIR. In this seminar I outline how this could be achieved.
